Registration is necessary in order to support contact tracing and to ensure that numbers on routes can be managed well while maintaining physical distancing. Note that the Government of Ontario’s allowance of participants for outdoor events will not necessarily apply to TBN rides; I think all would agree that riders for a single event would be unwieldy. It will be up to each ride leader and coordinator to determine their own participation limits based on the number they feel they can confidently keep physically distanced for the entire ride from start to finish.
By now most of us are quite familiar with these restrictions, having lived in this new reality for some time. We are all looking forward to seeing one another again, enjoying more rides as they open up, and to having fun together again in the midst of an unforgettable summer.

This splendid machine was first introduced in after a long series of experiments and trials, and was intended to compete in price with the unreliable machines of obscure jobbers and builders. Its success has been unprecedented, due to the fact that Ladies for the first time had offered to them a machine fully guaranteed in every detail including tyres, light and highly finished, at a price with the reach of every purse.
Since its first introduction, experience has enabled us to add great improvements in detail and finish, and the large sale it has met with enables us to make a substanital reduction in the price. The statement above reveals the difficulties faced by the major cycle manufacturers because of the cheap and poorly-made bicycles that threatened to ruin the cycle market.

The men and women who built them, by and large, also rode them, as their primary means of transportation. Most modern bicycles are designed with the primary intent to catch your eye on the sales floor, and persuade you to buy. That is not what a Raleigh Sports was about. Contemporary bicycles that have steel rims, or cranks, or handlebars, or brakes do so as a way of cutting corners and saving a little bit of money, for a low-end bicycle. Modern steel rims, cranks, etc are of low quality, because they are aimed at the cheapest possible price point.

THE history of industrial progress from its earliest period, presents no more memorable or remarkable chapter than that which embraces the inception and development of the cycle-manufacturing trade of this country, a trade of worldwide extent and importance, for which, perhaps, the only parallel to be found is supplied in the first introduction of steam-power for railway purposes. Even this example — unique in every sense — fails to convey an impression of the universality of the most popular form of locomotion yet devised by the wit of man, and which to-day, claims its votaries in millions of the human race wherever a pathway can be found on which a wheel can travel.
With the invention of the cycle was opened a new and important field of enterprise, and with the subsequent rapid strides of improvement must be inseparably associated the great firm of Humber and Co. In the year , Mr. Thomas Humber embarked in the business of cycle manufacturing in accomparatively small way at Nottingham, and there was subsequently joined in partnership by Mr. Marriott, and later by Mr.
Cooper, the firm trading then as Humber, Marriott and Cooper. Ten years later the business was transferred from the original site to Beeston, about four miles south-west of Nottingham, and it is interesting to note that at that time it was only considered necessary to erect one comparatively small factory to accommodate the eighty men then employed, which has since been extended to its present commodious size, providing convenience for a large industrial army of some 2, hands. In , the firm was reconstituted as a limited liability company, and in the following year the Coventry factory was established.
Still advancing their policy of extension, and in order to meet the continuously increasing demand for the Humber machines, the Company acquired in , “The Ashes” Factory, at Wolverhampton, to which in it was found necessary to add a second factory in Poultney Street, in the same town, a brief description of both buildings appearing at a later stage of our notice.
